Trump's own worst enemy looks back from the mirror when he shaves. Kamala Harris is a breath of fresh air talking about issues and why she is a good candidate as opposed to what one reporter called Trump's "self-immolation" when he speaks, which I believe will get even worse if he gets behind.
What happened at the NABJ is just a recent example. Many questioned why he was invited or even chose to go. So, his setting himself on fire with his inflammatory remarks was not a total surprise, but even Trump went beyond his normal offputting commentary. The bipartisan criticism of his behavior is justified in the minds of many.
The rebuttal emails I get from MAGA fans are an attempt to rationalize Trump's behavior. The rebutter may feel better by belt-sanding away the rough spots with coarse paper, but Trump's behavior is still questionable. Anytime Trump or a fan says "Everyone knows…" the next line is an opinion not fact. Trump uses it as part of his sales schtick to gain buy in to what he is saying.
Reporters who covered Trump's businesses long before he was president noted he is very good at sales, but not so good at management. Sales schtick is an apt descriptor of saying anything to get buy-in. The truth is only used if it helps the sale, but even then it is polished up. Lying is not frowned on. Name calling is often used.
The dilemma for Trump is now every word is heard, scrubbed and scrutinized. So, when he lies, blames, name calls or criticizes others, people notice, especially when he does the latter two. And, when nothing is ever his fault, the blame flows freely. It will only get worse over the next few months.
