The federal government recently announced plans to award $45.1 million to expand mental health and substance use services.
A few weeks ago the federal government reported its plans to continue addressing the mental health and opioid crisis by offering grant awards totaling $45.1 million. Of the $45.1 million, $15.3 will be directed towards services for youth and children. These grants align with U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) mission to lead public health efforts that promote mental health, prevent substance misuse, and provide treatments and supports for recovery, ensuring equitable access and better outcomes for all. These federal grants provide a strategic opportunity to enhance local health and human services. Counties can leverage funds to address critical issues such as youth mental health, homelessness, substance use disorders, and support for minority and underserved populations.
