Finally, on May 31st the goddamn sun is out. Finally. A day before June the glorious sun has graced us and it's blissfully 75 degrees, my god. I swear it's been too cold to sit outside since late October, early November. That's nearly 7 months ago. Can you even fathom it? This last winter here really did me in. I remember crying in the car one day as I watched the snow just fall around me, onto the road I have to drive on, everything dead, and just thinking oh my God why did I even come back here?? I didn't have to deal with winter for five years basically and then came back. All to buy a stupid, not cheap as it turns out, house that my husband didn't even end up enjoying owning. Ugh what a mess. But thank goodness it can be remedied. I don't think there's anything really that would have induced us to stay. Sure we'll miss the friends we made, and it is a bit sad that maybe my dad has finally met a nice lady with nice kids who I could have been friends with. But we can't stay here just for that. Also, yes it's beautiful in the summer, but it's also just so extreme in a way Portland didn't seem. When it's winter it's SO desolate and dead and cold stark, like Antarctica. In summer it suddenly becomes lush green swampy hot like Florida. The in betweens of just being comfortable temperature and mild outside are hardly in existence. In Portland it's more steady and mild all year, no extreme changes. That's better for my mental and physical health I believe. I felt a huge difference coming back after being out west for three years. The first year Sedrick felt the humidity it affected him intensely. I found him laying sprawled out on the floor in a room, as if struck down by it. Took Sedrick outside today and it felt so nice to just be outside for once and be able to stay out as long as I wanted because it wasn't too hot or cold.
