(Trouble) We can't go over it We can't go under it Oh No, we've got to go THROUGH IT!*1 What an excellent lesson for life. Kids love this story. I love this story. I am reminded of it often in life. It probably is not a bear hunt that is our challenge, or thick oozy mud that we have to go through – it may be an exam, an interview, a new job, a difficult conversation.. it may be a separation, rejection, unemployment, a bereavement, a diagnosis… But whatever it is, we can't go over it we can't go under it, (nor can we hide and refuse to budge!) oh no, we've got to go through it. Jesus made it clear that we definitely WILL face suffering and trials of one kind or another. We will go on our own bear-hunts. And we will probably 'stumble, trip; stumble, trip; stumble trip'. He also made it clear that we do NOT have to go THROUGH it alone. If we invite Jesus into our lives and into the hard days, the dark days, the difficult days, He will surely be with us, suffering with us, in it with us to the other side. Praise God.
