Wait patiently for the Lord.
Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. Psalm 27:14
The psalmist shared that he was being attacked by his enemies, but he knew the Lord would come to rescue him. As a result he charged, "wait patiently for the Lord, be brave and courageous".
Wait - Strong's H6960 - qāvâ - to wait, or look eagerly for
Not all versions have the word patiently included, in fact most don't. Some translate the word trust. God rarely works on our timetables, especially when things seem to be going wrong around us or we are facing the enemy's attack. We have to learn to stand knowing that He will come through. To our enemy, we look brave; inside, we know it's courage.
Brave means ready to face and endure danger or pain. We can do this as we wait on God because we know He is our protector and that there is purpose in the pain. God will use the circumstances we are facing for His Kingdom and our good. Growth and dependence on Him is often what is birthed in the danger and pain.
Courage is the ability to do something that frightens one. When we stand waiting on the Lord it usually takes courage; it takes faith. It can be frightening because other than His word, we have no guarantee of how things will turn out. Yet we wait anyway.
When my husband lost his job we had to wait on God. In the midst of COVID things were difficult. You didn't go in for an interview, you waited on the phone a lot. But we were able to be brave and courageous because we had seen God's faithfulness. Our trust and faith in God was grown when my husband lost his job before and when I had lost my job. God took us through that so we were able to stand and wait even though it was frightening.
There will always be times of waiting. Some will be done with expectancy like the birth of a child. Others with bravery and courage. We just have to wait on the Lord and know whatever we face He will be there with us.
Lord, thank You for helping us stay brave and courageous as we've waited on You. Your timing is never mine but I trust Your faithfulness to come through.
