Our soul waits for the Lord;
He is our help and our shield. Psalm 33:20
When we stand in hope waiting for the Lord, He is the help we are waiting on. Help maybe His healing hand or deliverance, but it may also be the help He sends through another. We have to be willing to accept His help however or by whomever it is sent.
I am reminded of a story of a man who cried out to God for help in a flood. Someone came to warn him to get out; he didn't listen. Then came a rescue boat, again he refused. Finally air rescue offered to get him out, again he refused because he was waiting on God. He died and when he made it through the gates of Heaven he asked why God didn't rescue him. The answer was he had refused all the help that God had sent. When we wait on God, we can be sure the answer rarely comes in the way we think it will or that the results rarely looks like we think or expect.
I remember praying to God for provision. I was looking for a job at the time. Got answered by providing my husband a promotion. God was working some things out me that require more time for me with him. He met the knee just in a different way than expected.
When we wait on the Lord he is also our shield. He protects us from what we feel might really be about to destroy us. We will either deliver us through it or He will bring us home with Him in heaven. That is protection.
Lord, I wait on You! You are my ever present help in times of danger and the shield that protects me as I wait on You!
