I'm a Beauty Expert, And This Is What You Are Getting Wrong With Your Skincare Routine

My name is Amy Zapantis, and I am the founder of Amatus skincare. As an industry expert with a decade of experience, I have worked with some of the biggest brands in the world and I can understand how challenging and overwhelming skincare can be! What stood out to me was the complexity and lack of education behind skincare, and what the ultimate routine might look like. With endless products on the market, I am here to tell you what you are doing wrong when it comes to skincare and what you should be looking out for.

Using too many ingredients

The biggest misconception to a skincare routine that I see is the number of steps and products people use. It can be quite normal for people to have a 5-6 step morning and evening routine using different drops, serums, oils, cleaners, creams and more in one application! Whilst this may work for someone else, does not mean it will work for you! My advice is bring it back to the basics and focus on what your skin needs so you can target what ingredients you should be using. When you have assessed your skin and targeted your concerns, you can then address them by applying the correct type of product or ingredient without getting caught up in all the unnecessary steps. Try to also remember that by using too many different products, you can begin to dilute the ingredients that your skin needs. My tip to all my consumers and clients is to bring your skincare back to the basics in a simplified 3 step routine to target your concerns and keep your skincare goals achievable for an everyday routine. My skincare collection Amatus is a 3-step routine for everyday use, using the highest quality ingredients to help achieve healthy, glowing skin.

Lack of education in ingredients

With endless choices of products on the market, it can be easy to be swept up by consumer marketing, pretty packaging, social media and influencer routines. I typically see people using products that they think is doing their skin favours however they aren't too sure what or why they are using that ingredient in the first place. With this, comes a lack of education when people use active ingredients together in the same routine which might even cause your skin more harm than good. My advice would be to have your skin assessed by a professional and figure out what types of active or non-active ingredients are needed to address your individual skin concerns.

Neglecting the neck and chest

Whilst this one might seem obvious for some, it is completely ignored by others! Often, people will use their products on their face only and might avoid applying to their neck and chest. Understandably, you might be using more product in the process, however in the long run your neck and your chest will thank you! Our necks and chest are one of the first parts of our bodies to age so ensuring you are treating them with the same love and respect you do your face, might ultimately help slow down the ageing process of these areas.

Inconsistency

Like having too many products and over-exposing your skin to different types of products and ingredients comes consistency of application. I typically see people trying different products and brands based on trends and hype, which in turn results in a very inconsistent routine for your skin. Consistency really is key to see beneficial results in any skincare routine, making sure you stick to the same steps and products each day can really help maximise the effectiveness.

About Amatus

Amy Zapantis is an Aussie skincare expert who started in the industry at the age of 18. Moving to London at 21, Amy has worked for some of the biggest skincare brands in the world, however, one thing stood out to her, and that was how confusing the skincare market could be. She created Amatus to simply the process. Amy has over 10 years of experience in the industry, and she has surrounded herself with a highly qualified team that consists of chemists with 30 year's experience in skincare formulation.

Amatus was built on a simplified 3-step routine with refined formulas and an honest philosophy. They use only the most effective and essential ingredients to create everyday skincare products to target all skin types and deeper skin concerns through their gentle and complex ranges.
