"When we finished from the university, I was posted to Lagos for service. He was posted to Niger but his parents made sure he was redeployed to Lagos. He convinced me to stay after service and got me the apartment.
It was a better option than going back to live with my aunt and uncle in Enugu…
I kept bearing with Jeffery's behavior hoping he would change but I've realized my foolishness. This isn't love… It isn't. I don't know why it took me this long to realize" She buried her face in her hands and wept.
"I'm sorry…" She couldn't believe that she had narrated her entire life history to this person she barely knew. Yet, she felt so relieved.
"You don't have to apologize. Tears are not weakness. Sometimes it's good to let them flow so you can heal....
You have been through a lot for someone your age and your strength is remarkable. I'm glad to tell you that God's love is able to heal and restore you completely. Your dawn has come, your light has come…" Gbade kept speaking God's word over her till she calmed down.
He gave her hand a gentle squeeze before turning into the close that led to Pastor Tade's house. They were almost there… He got to the gate and honked the horn. The gateman came outside to confirm their identity and opened the gate.
Gbade drove in and parked the car. Two ladies and a guy came out to greet them and helped them take the luggage into the house.
Pastor Tade was seated in the living room watching the news.
"Good evening Daddy" Gbade prostrated half-way.
"Good evening son. You're welcome"
"Good evening sir" Ogechi knelt down. "Thank you so much for agreeing to take me in"
"Good evening my daughter. We bless God. Please get up…"
"You guys are right on time. Dinner is ready." Pastor Tayo stepped out of the kitchen.
Gbade and Ogechi greeted her as well.
"I won't be able to stay for dinner ma… I need to prepare for work tomorrow. I'll pay you a proper visit soon" Gbade explained.
"Alright dear. Drive safely" Pastor Tayo replied.
"Yes mummy" He replied, then turned to Ogechi. "Take care of yourself and feel free. This is home…"
Ogechi nodded as she waved him goodbye. As soon as he stepped out of the door, she felt a wave of loneliness.
As though Pastor Tayo could read her mind, she told her that everything would be fine. Then she pulled her into an unexpected hug that reminded her of her mother.
Gbade was right. This was home.
Fried rice and beef was served for dinner and she got to meet everyone in the house. Pastor Tade and Tayo had four children.
Shalom was the first born, twenty years old and currently home for the semester break. Followed by the twin boys, Joshua and Judah, who were 16. The last born was Sarah who was eight.
Asides the children, there was also a guy, Nathaniel and a lady, Darasimi who seemed to be in their early twenties too. They were also staying with the family. Now she understood why they lived in a beautiful and large duplex.
After eating, they showed her to the room she would be sharing with Darasimi. She heard laughter from the living room. They were watching an interesting movie. She planned to join them after taking a shower but as soon as she hit the bed, she fell asleep.
To be continued.
Happy Easter guys🤍
