Matthew 14:32-36 NLT – [32] When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. [33] Then the disciples worshiped him. "You really are the Son of God!" they exclaimed. [34] After they had crossed the lake, they landed at Gennesaret. [35] When the people recognized Jesus, the news of his arrival spread quickly throughout the whole area, and soon people were bringing all their sick to be healed. [36] They begged him to let the sick touch at least the fringe of his robe, and all who touched him were healed.
For each of us, a new year has commenced. We have plans, goals, and hopeful expectations for a new year. For the world, such things are often defined by achievement and material gain. And I must admit, my past years have been filled with such resolutions and goals.
I often wonder after I read this passage, what were the expectations of Jesus's disciples as to what would be next as they reached the other side and stepped out of the boat. I mean, they just saw Christ multiply food and feed thousands. They saw Him walk on the storm driven waters. They then saw Him silence the storm to a calm hush.

What must have been going through their minds about what tomorrow would hold? I am convinced it wasn't about what they would each accomplish but rather what Christ would perfect in their presence. Their goals were to be with Him for eternity. To sit at the feet of the Son of God and breathe in His words and wonder.
It's ok to have goals for your new year, but do not forget "purpose". To spend each day of this year before Christ with the expectation of His wonderful presence.
Stay healthy and have a blessed week!
