Nestled in the heart of Richmond, a Melbourne inner city suburb renowned for its dynamic energy and cultural vibrancy, The Motley Hotel emerges as a beacon of contemporary design and artistic flair. This 80-room boutique hotel is not just a place to stay; it's a celebration of Melbourne's eclectic spirit and a tribute to the artistic community that thrives within the city. With its prime location on the famous Bridge Road (and only a stone's throw from Melbourne's bustling CBD), The Motley weaves a new narrative into the cityscape, redefining the essence of urban hospitality.

The Experience

This 80-room, design-driven hotel is a marvel of interior design, perfectly encapsulating the spirit of inner-city Melbourne. Upon entering the grand, double-height entrance, we were instantly immersed in a world where art and design are not just seen but felt. Murals, artwork, and textiles - all echoing Melbourne's rich cultural and artistic diversity - adorn ceilings, walls, and suites, transforming each space into a living canvas. Check-in was seamless and the team made us feel at home form the moment we walked through the door. The hotel has a more intimate feel than many of the large city hotel chains, making an ideal stay for anyone who loves a more boutique, personalised experience.

The Location

Nestled on the bustling Bridge Road retail strip, The Motley boasts an ideal location. Its proximity to the CBD, Melbourne's world-famous sporting precincts and the leafy Eastern suburbs means you are perfectly located to enjoy all that Melbourne has on offer. For those eager to explore Melbourne's iconic attractions, this hotel serves as the perfect base camp. The location combines the charm of Richmond with the convenience of quick access to the city, striking a perfect balance for both leisure and business travelers. Bridge Road and Richmond have plenty of eating and shopping options, so you could easily spend a weekend exploring the suburb and enjoying the hotel without having to venture very far.

What We Loved

  • Super Comfortable Beds: A sanctuary of comfort, the beds at The Motley are like sleeping on white, cosy clouds, ensuring a restful night's sleep.
  • The Balcony Rooms: The charm of the balconies adds a romantic flair to the rooms, opening up to let in the fresh, vibrant energy of Richmond and fresh air - one of our favorite things in a hotel room!
  • Prime Location: Its prime location offers the best of Richmond - from local cafes to boutiques, all just a stone's throw from Melbourne's bustling city life.
  • Exceptional Dining: Dining at Ms Parker, the on-site restaurant, is a food lover's delight. From kingfish to perfectly cooked pork belly and crispy-skinned barramundi, each dish we tried was exceptional and some of the better hotel restaurant offerings we have experienced in Melbourne.
  • Rooftop Bar Experience: The terrace bar, Threads, is a fun spot to enjoy pre-dinner cocktails. The views of Melbourne's skyline and the Dandenong Ranges from here are great, especially on a balmy evening.
  • Impeccable Service: The service at The Motley, particularly in the restaurant, is outstanding, contributing to an overall exceptional experience.
The Foyer, The Motley Hotel

The Motley is a hub of art, creativity, comfort, and culinary excellence, woven seamlessly into the fabric of Richmond and Melbourne's vibrant urban scene. It's a place where every stay is an adventure waiting to be discovered and a great alternative to staying in the CBD when you want a more local, authentic experience.
