A time to kill and a time to heal;
A time to tear down and a time to build up. Ecclesiastes 3:3
The same word is used for kill and tear down in the original text. When I think about Hill to me the opposite would not be kill. I think of hurt, affliction, or even sicken. I think of things that would make someone go to a doctor, not death or kill. Yet many illnesses do lead to death. God provides a time for healing; but there is also a time where that sickness will kill us if we don't address it. Many illnesses are preventable, curable, or manageable with lifestyle modifications.
There are things we can do to build our body back up. Things like lose weight. We can exercise. We can drink more water. We can eat a healthier or more balanced diet. We can stop smoking. We can stop doing drugs. We can reduce our stress. We can reduce our caffeine and/or alcohol consumption. These are all things that doctors recommend for most every type of illness. These habits build up our body. The opposite of those actions tear down our body. They kill it.
This year, my focus is to build those healthy habits in my life to bring healing. I believe that God has been speaking to me that now is that time. It is a choice I have to make to obey His timing. Otherwise I may find myself in the killing and tearing it down time in my life.
I've read research that some of those habits do not really extend your life. Instead they improve the quality of your life. I know personally I'm much more interested in the quality of life over the quantity. I am happy to go be with God in heaven; but while I'm here on this earth I'd like to live a quality of life that honors God!
Lord help me with this journey of health to create and enjoy habits that build up and heal this temple of Yours. In Jesus name amen.
