| Ginger Johnson Dec 31 | One day a few weeks ago Kitty (age 7) was squirting me in the face with water and laughing uproariously. Then she paused and muttered, "It's only funny when others are sharing your laughter." She aimed the spray bottle away from me so that the spray would no longer be hitting me and changed her game from, "Make Momma cringe" to "Hit the invisible octopus monster." It was a sweet breakthrough moment: Kitty was actually reminding herself of a guideline that I'd provided for her previously–and then changing her own behavior based on it. Since then this has happened a couple more times in different circumstances: Kitty has reminded herself aloud of various guidelines and course-corrected as a result. Happy New Year to each and every one of you! May 2024 bring joy and peace. | | | | You can also reply to this email to leave a comment. | | | | |
