The memories assigned to these, miniscule things in your lives, and they got passed down from you to your students, then to your own young granddaughters in play…translated…
The game packs of my granddaughters', had a ton of apple-shaped cutout from the orange poster papers, and, looking at these orange apples that's been saved for decades, it'd taken me back to the eighties when I'd taught the children's mental math.
To encourage the students to learn, I'd started up the thought, worked with a local stationery shop, every orange-shaped page equals two dollars, to allow my students to accumulate to a certain dollar amount, then they would get to trade for something in the shop that they wanted (no cash!), after awhile, I'd gone to the store, and, "bought" the cutout apples back to reuse them.
The kids got the sense of achievement through the rewards, to accumulate the number of apples they have, they'd become, more agile in the work. As they'd improved a little on their grades, I the teacher, would be more than willing, to give them the rewards, and so, during that period of time, my students were excellent in the competitions and in the certifications too.

In 2003, I'd ended the class, I had a box of orange apple cutouts left, and later, they'd become, the play-pretend currency my young granddaughter played house with, every one of them saved some, and they'd, told grandma, to "keep an eye on our money!"
Grandma won't just, watch their "currency", I will, always, keep this, wonderful memory of quid pro quo with me.
So, this is how to get her students to become motivated to learn, and, it'd worked, and the rewards became an alternative sort of a reward in play for her young granddaughters to have.
