India performing best in World University Games 2023
The 31st edition of World University Games is being held in Chengdu, China. The 2021 edition had been postponed due to COVID-19. This year's World University Games was decided to be held in Yekaterinburg, Russia in 2023 but it has also been cancelled after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
China was restored as hosts for the 2023 edition with it being called officially as the 2021 World University Games. Indian athletes have been glistening bright at World University Games 2023.
Around 230 Indian athletes are taking part in the FISU World University Games in Chengdu, being held from July 28 to August 8.
Sports in Indian players participated:
Indian players are participating in 11 sports such as archery, athletics, badminton, fencing, judo, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis and volleyball.
Till Saturday India won 25 medals in which 11 gold, 5 silver and 9 bronze and holding fourth position in medals tally.
Indian athletes are already overshadowed their previous best performance of 2015.
India have been part of the World University Games, called Universiade before, since the inaugural edition in 1959.
