World's largest food storage scheme approved by India

The Government of India is going to unveiled a policy for world's biggest food grain storage scheme under the cooperative societies sector. Union Minister Anurag singh Thakur has termed the proposed scheme as the "world's largest food grain storage programme" in the cooperative sector. The government has decided to allocate Rs 1 lakh crore for the program.

Food grain storage programme:

The programme targets to increase storing capacity for India's food grain by seven hundered lakh tonne in the cooperative sector.
Currently, the storage capacity for grain in the country is about 1,450 lakh tonne.
A capacity of 2000 tonnes of godown will be built in every block. An inter-ministerial committee would also be formed for this under this scheme.
In the next five years, the storage will increase to more than 2000 lakh tonne.

Benefits under storage programme:

The policy is purposed to reduce the damage of food grains due to a lack of storage.
It will also help in the situation of distress sales by farmers, reduce import dependence and create employment opportunities in rural India.
It will boost food security in India and help farmers to realize better prices for their goods.
After this farmers will have no worries to sell their produced items in a hurried manner in concern to climate-related vagaries.
Currently, there are 65,000 agricultural cooperative societies in India.
The farmers will also be capable to get up to 70% loans from these societies apart from storing their produce in the facilities.
India will cut down Transportation costs and save the money for it's another productive usage.
The production of food grains in India is about 3,100 lakh tonne a year.

A decision is taken to initiate the City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain - CITIIS 2.0 program.
City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain – CITIIS 2.0 Project has been approved under the Smart cities mission to promote integrated waste management and climate rehabilitation actions.
CITIIS 2.0 project is going to implement in 18 cities and has a period of four years 2023-2027.
