Flamin Hot is a 2023 American Biographical comedy drama. This movie is the directorial debut of Eva Longoria and it is based on the real life story of Richard Montañez who claimed to have invented the Flaming hot Cheetos and it tells the story of he went from becoming a poor janitor to an executive in Frito-Lay.
This movie gives us the backstory into Richard's life. It begins with his childhood and we see how he was brought up. Richard and his family were immigrants who lived in Southern California. Growing up was though for Richard because they were Poor and he was picked on at school. His childhood was not all bad, he met his future wife Judy at school, he had a big family so he was well entertained and his bullies brought out the street hustle in him because he started selling burritos to them. When he tried to spend the money he made, he got arrested because the shop owner thought he stole the money. So from a very young age, Richard found out that the country he was in saw him differently and he turned to a life of crime.
Many years later, Richard and Judy are married and are expecting their first baby. Richard was still involved in illegal activities. Judy was trying to contain that he should leave his life of crime behind and try to get a new stable job. A few years pass and they have a second child now and are still trying to get a job. Finally Richard's old friend Tony help him get a job as a janitor in Frito-Lay. Richard is excited and he does his best at his job with the hope of career progression and promotion.
After few weeks Richard meets the Engineer Maintenance Leader Mr Clarence Baker to teach him about the machines and after a lot of convincing Mr Baker agrees to teach him. Years go by and Richard is still a lowly janitor and he is disappointed . Also, the economy crashed and a lot of companies suffered huge losses including Frito-Lay. So there was lay offs and people hours were cut. Richard was worried and he tried to come up with an idea to stop him from loosing his job.
One day, after Richard picks his two sons from school they go to get Mexican street corn. His youngest son admits that the corn is spicy but he loves the spiciness of it. That gave Richard an idea to make spicy chips. Richard goes home from work with few bags of unflavoured chips and with the help of his family, he tried to come up with a recipe of seasons to add to the chips that will make it spicy in a good way.
After a lot of trial and error they finally come up with a recipe that tasted very good. Richard tried to tell his line manager about his idea but his manager looked down on him and turned him down. Richard not wanting to give up so easily gets the number of Frito-Lay's CEO Mr Rogers Enrico who agrees to try his hot chips. Mr Enrico loved the chips and agreed for the production to start.
