1st National Bank (Saint Lucia) Limited says it's proud to have once-again stood-out among local banks, this time as the only bank on island to have opened on Friday June 23, soonest after the all-clear was issued following passage of Tropical Storm Bret the day before.

The bank's Rodney Bay branch, at the J.Q. Mall, opened from 2pm to 4pm Friday and according to its Managing Director Fletcher St. Jean, management and staff were pleased to have provided much-needed services to account holders, many of whom flocked to the branch after news circulated that it was open.

St. Jean said, "We were pleased to have been there for our customers, be they employers who had to pay wages to anxious staff, or workers who had to cash cheques for post-Bret emergencies, or others who needed other urgent counter-services."

The MD stated, "The bank's Business Continuity Plan (BCP) team worked into the night and early morning, as the team called employees to ensure they, along with their families, were safe.

"Additionally, at daybreak, our Executive Management team met virtually to discuss "What If…" scenarios on when and if an 'All Clear' would be granted, hence why the mobilization of staff was easily-attained to open our doors to our customers."

The Managing Director says he "personally visited the JQ Mall branch, to thank each staff for their commitment…"

He added, "As the first and only bank to open on the last week-day and on the first day after the June 22 storm, we were able to serve all who needed quick access to finance for post-storm clean-ups and repairs – again assuring customers they can always bank on 1st National Bank…"

Meanwhile, St. Jean says the bank on Tuesday – before the storm – hosted a special lunch for banking and finance execs attending the 53rd Annual General Meeting of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

The executive luncheon was hosted at the Sandals Grande Saint Lucian Resort and Spa, where the CDB's AGM opened that morning, and where the 1st National Banks' MD welcomed local, regional and international colleagues to the land of birth of both the CDB's Founding President Sir Arthur Lewis and current President Hyginus 'Gene' Leon.
