Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital, or simply M.Y. Hospital is a government hospital located in the heart of Indore city. Built in 1955, this 7-storey hospital is the oldest hospital in Madhya Pradesh. Once I was treated in this hospital after a road accident in front of this hospital.
But today I am not going to talk about this hospital but about its surroundings. Last month I was in Indore and was surprised to see high-rise buildings all around where earlier such buildings were hardly there. Not only in this area, the scene remains the same in every part of Indore, even in the outer areas.
Constructing multistorey flats and apartments on costly land is a profitable proposition for builders, as the vertical space is free, subject to certain restrictions. Villages are turning into towns and cities into metropolises. Even the agricultural land is being converted into residential places. The forest area is also shrinking.
In terms of population, we have left China behind to become number one in the world. There is definitely a need for a large number of residential houses for our ever-increasing population and the only option to solve this problem is the construction of multi-storeyed buildings.
Earlier most of the houses were built independently on their own land. Independent houses are still being built, but there is little room for greenery and gardens in those houses and buildings, as everyone wants to use every inch of space available. People think that rooms are more important than gardens and greenery. This is certainly a very sad situation.
For houses or flats, we buy many expensive facilities and luxuries to live a comfortable life. But we forget that polluted environment is not good for our health in the long run. Modern facilities and technology will not come to rescue if health is adversely affected, and if the health of our mother earth deteriorates then our health will not be good.
Natural disasters are becoming increasingly dangerous to humanity due to increase in population and changes in climate due to global warming and rise in sea level. It is high time that we mend our ways to make this planet a better place to live.
Today is the World Earth Day, and the theme for this year is "Invest in Our Planet." Let's take a pledge to invest by increasing greenery and number of gardens around us.
Today is World Earth Day, and this year's theme is "Invest in our planet." Come, let's take a pledge to invest by increasing the greenery and number of gardens and kitchen gardens around us.
