Do you want to have a closer relationship with God but then, you're overwhelmed with the common misconception that spending time with Him requires being alone with Him?
In today's times, we often feel we must sacrifice some "important" task in order to worship God. And this almost feels like a burden for us because we don't want to waste our time. But you know what? Anything that you do can be an act of worship only if you learn to practice His presence at all times. The Bible says, "He rules everything and is everywhere and is in everything." Therefore, we don't necessarily need to go for special retreats to consider our actions as worship. We can stay close to Him through the most mundane and common tasks of life such as cleaning your house, cooking, washing the dishes, and so on and so for.
Brother Lawrence, a humble cook in a French monastery said that "The key to friendship with God is not changing what you do, but changing your attitude towards what you do."
Another thing that will build an intimate relationship with God is through constant conversation. The Bible says, "Pray without ceasing." And this means to converse with God in every activity that we do in our daily lives. Of course, it's important to attend church and to have a daily quiet time but this will never build a more intimate relationship with Him. He wants to be included in every part of our lives. And not just an appointment in your schedule. He wants us to seek and know Him on a deeper level. In fact, the Bible says, "He made the entire human race and made the earth hospitable, with plenty of time and space for living so we could seek after God, and not just grope around in the dark but actually find Him." Acts 17:26-27 (MSG)
And lastly, we establish an intimate relationship with Him through meditating on His words. And don't confuse meditation with overwhelming tasks. It's just about focused thinking.
"When you think about a problem over and over in your mind, that's called worry. When you think about God's word over and over in your mind, that's meditation. If you know how to worry, you already know how to meditate!"
The Purpose Driven Life
I hope this message will remind you not to let His word or a sermon easily slip away in your mind. Carve the truth in your heart and continue to reflect on it. Because the more time you spend reflecting what God has said, the more you will have a better understanding about the mysteries of this life. The Bible says, "Friendship with God is reserved for those who revere Him. With them alone He shares the secrets of His promises." Psalm 25:14 (LB)
Take it easy,
Yela, the wonderer
