So last week, I shared my journey of spiritual journalling and the responses were quite encouraging. I was even surprised when a friend shared the link to a program that was being organized by Darasimi Oyor on Mixlr - Let's War 3.0
On the 25th of October, a day before I made that blog post, Darasimi Oyor actually talked about spiritual journalling too! I listened to the recorded session later and it was such a huge confirmation that the Spirit is indeed one! I also got more insight too.
There's no doubt that keeping records are powerful. I'd just be sharing some tips on journalling;
- Firstly, get a journal, duh! If you want to start journalling, get a special book for it. There are a lot of beautiful journals out there, get one within your budget. It also doesn't have to be too expensive, you could get a plain looking dairy or notebook and design it yourself with colored markers or stickers.
- Write... Your journal isn't going to fill up by itself. Pick up your pen. Write your life experiences, write about your encounters in programs or during personal time with God. Write about the beautiful people in your life. Write about discussions with other believers that has blessed you. Write about a song, book or message that gave you more insight. Write your dreams and aspirations, about what God wants you to become. Write instructions and assignments given to you by God or through spiritual parents/mentors.
- Be sincere. Sometimes we only want to write about the good times and the fun moments but it's okay to write about your downtime too. God knows that you're still a human being. Life will throw situations at us and we're overwhelmed. But it's good to write about your hurts, your falls, your downtimes, your boredom your mistakes and insecurities. Write to God all about it and tell Him to help you. Reading about such times later on, helps you see how that experience shaped you into a better person.
- Sometimes, you may not be with your journal when you feel like writing or when you receive something, you can use your phone to keep records too. In fact, some people prefer to use their phone or PC instead of a journal. Both have their pros and cons, find what works for you. If you receive a song, you can also record it on your phone and listen to it later so that you don't forget the tune.
Personally, I like to record when I attend programs, or when I'm privileged to minister so that I can hear my own voice and the person beside me praying, laughing or crying or catching rhema
- You can also store important pictures, messages, books, materials on your Google drive.
- Journalling is great for both genders. If you are a guy reading this, don't see it as a girly thing. You are also "Abba's beloved bride"
- Keep your journal in a safe place if you don't want it to be read by others or be tampered with by children but you don't have to be spooky about it. It's a bad idea to have inscriptions like "Do not touch" or "Confidential" on the front page You can also write some things in a way that only you and God can understand
Wheew! Long post but I'm glad you read to the end. Hope you've gained something? Feel free to ask questions. I pray that you keep blooming in your walk with God
