National Unity Day is celebrated every year on October 31 in India to mark the 147th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel that played a significant role in Indian Politics. This national day is also known as "Rashtriya Ekta Diwas" which was introduced by the Government of India in the year 2014.
This national day also pays tributes to veteran freedom fighter Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel also called as the "Iron Man of India" and was also the first home minister of our country and contributed to convince several princely states to join India after Independence. This national day is thankful for the vital efforts of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for the integration of India.
This national day offers an opportunity to reaffirm the flexibility and the inner strength of India which resist the actual or potential threats to the security, integrity, and unity of our country. Saradar Vallabhbhai Patel was a member of the Indian National Congress and fought against the British rule in India during the freedom movement.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the first home minister of India after independence. He also played a significant role in persuasion around 500 princely states to make or join India. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel faced several challenges and managed for Integrating these princely states without violence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the statue of statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai (182m tall) which is called as "Statue of Unity" in the year 2018. The Statue of Unity is situated on the banks of the Narmada River in Kevadia which facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam close to the Vadodara in the state of Gujrat.
The main aim of this national day is to maintain the unity of the nation and pays tribute to the important contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai to our country. On this day, there are many programs are arranging in offices, schools, and colleges in our country to celebrate this national day.
