Your therapist can't read your mind. If something isn't working or if you're struggling with something, it's important to share that with your therapist so they can adjust their methods and you can process your experience together. If your therapist refuses to acknowledge your feedback, that is usually a BIG red flag.
Here are a few things you should share with your therapist frankly :
- I don't think this technique is working for me, because ______________.
- I really don't want to come to our session today.
- This doesn't feel helpful. Can we try a different approach?
- That assumption or interpretation doesn't feel accurate to me.
- When you said ______________, it made me feel ______________.
- I feel like I'm not making any progress.
- I don't think I'm ready to talk about that yet.
