Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;
Talk of all His wondrous works!
Psalm 105:2 (NKJV)
Suggested reading: Psalm 105:1-5
When we are brokenhearted and suffering tremendous emotional and spiritual pain due to traumatic situations, we can fall into the trap of only talking about our pain and the horrible things we have experienced. Traumatic situations include the death of a loved one, divorce, any type of abuse, rape, molestation, accidents and natural disasters. However, we must choose to also talk about our Most High God and His wondrous works.
It helps our hearts, minds and spirits to heal when we remember and talk about the amazing things the Lord has done in our lives. Intentionally remembering and praising the Lord for His goodness brings our focus back on things that will help us climb out of the pit of extreme emotional and spiritual pain. It is not easy to do, especially when all the thoughts that the devil plants tend to lead us to be discouraged and to despair. However, we cannot seek the Lord and His strength if we continue to focus on the painful and traumatic things that happened to us.
The joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10) and remembering Almighty God's marvelous works will help us to receive His joy and to sing to the Lord. Traumatic experiences weaken our hearts and spirits and the only true and lasting remedy is healing through Jesus Christ. The greatest thing that the Most High God has done for us is that He sent Jesus to this earth in order for us to be offered forgiveness for our sins and healing for our broken hearts. We must thank God for that and talk about it, because it is very healing to talk of all His wondrous works!
