New Month/New Theme/s

Near the end of last month, my husband and I spent some time in Wisconsin, attending the annual conference of our denomination, the AFLC (for more information about us see https://www.aflc.org/). Since I was having trouble deciding on a theme for July, I decided that I would post about the various themes/topics/verses that were part of the meetings we attended.

Before the conference began, there was a program for pastors and their wives, called Rekindle the Fire, which focuses on evangelism. This year there were presentations by three pastors about some of the ways their congregations are seeking to spread the gospel in their communities.

The theme for the meeting of the WMF (Women's Missionary Federation) which was also held before the official opening of the conference was "Sing for Joy", going along with the Bible study for the year which focused on the Psalms. I learned some new songs, and reenjoyed many favorites -- in fact, music is a big part of any Lutheran gathering--we' called "The Singing Church" for a reason!

The overall conference theme was "God Rewards the Faithful" taken from Hebrews (my favorite book of the Bible:

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Hebrews 11:6

Since this year is the 60th anniversary of the formation of the denomination, there were a number of talks and devotions about legacies -- both legacies we have received, and legacies we will leave.

At the Mission service, later that week, we heard about new church plants in our country, as well as the work being done by our missionaries.

As you can imagine, I have returned with lots of food for thought. What have I learned, and how will I apply it? I'll be sharing my ideas with you this month.
