Spoilers for a story choice in Horizon: Forbidden West

Butch:

I was going to go back to base.  Really, I was.  But I finished up the shield thingy (how are you not using this WONDERFUL thing????), then did a bandit camp, then Scalding Spear was right there and there was a quest....two chieftans?  Choice? (Ironic, we were just saying choice was good)

I now know what that offline cauldron was for.  Or, why it's special.  No idea what it is actually FOR, you know?

Did you do that?  Or do I know something you don't for once?

It was good stuff.

The shield thing ended up themey!  "They failed...."  "No, it IS in the hands of someone who can use it for good!"

Past/future.  Neat stuff.

I then fast traveled right to the base to make super duper ooper sure I do it next.

Feminina:

I don't know, man! There's just such a limited amount of space on my equipment wheel -- I make things, and then forget to equip them to try them out, and then I just...never do it. But it was rather themey. Melancholy, failure, but who knows what may come in the future? The things we do now could make a difference in a thousand years.

Ah yes, the chieftains. Interesting that there is this one place, apparently, where you actually make a choice. I voted for what's-her-name, because the other guy, although I kind of liked him as a person based on adventuring with him (he was reckless and led me into trouble with that thunderjaw, but his enthusiasm was kind of endearing), didn't actually seem to have any concept of how to deal with the problems the tribe is facing. "We'll just give everyone what they want somehow, I'm sure I'd find a way!" or whatever he said when he was initially complaining about the leadership. Not exactly a well-laid plan there, my friend. Sorry I had to kill you, though.

Well, first I tried, of course, to convince them not to fight at all, but they weren't having that. It's not the way of the desert.

And of course the lady I supported ALSO can't really solve the tribe's problems, because the problems are with the entire world. They need Aloy for that! And one could argue that a change of leadership couldn't make things any worse, and might energize people, or something. I'm sure it wouldn't have made a huge difference overall if I'd supported the new guy. But I just don't feel good voting for someone whose big idea is "I'll fix it somehow."

Butch:

It rocks, man.  I so replaced the bolt blaster, which I also can't get the hang of.

Failure, what's to come, and, really, frame of reference.  The Old One and the pessimistic scholar thought they failed because their frame of reference wasn't, like, 1000 years.  It was when you pulled back that any success could be a thing.   Like, where are the boundaries?  Is success you never get to see "failure?"

I have a feeling as we are going to have a showdown between 1000 year old folks who certainly think anything they can't experience is useless and selfless, "I shall save humanity" heroes, this might come up.

Hey!  We did it differently!  I sided with the guy.  I didn't like his plans, but I also didn't think he did anything wrong, and lady there was being kinda judgy.   Don't jump to conclusions and act paranoid, chief!   We'll see if this difference matters.  I doubt it.  We shall see.

Still, interesting that we get a choice there, for some reason.  Wonder why there and not other places.

So....is that it for that cauldron?  I was sort of expecting something to, you know, HAPPEN when we did that.  Don't know why, but I sure feel like something there is going to happen.  Why would you be able to rappel down if all it was was "climb back up?"  That thing has to get powered up.  Right?  Has to.   I miss something?

Feminina:

Interesting! One non-dialogue choice in the whole game so far, and we did it differently! 2022 displaying some new quirks?

Yeah, I think that cauldron HAS to get powered up at some point, but so far I haven't heard anything about it. You haven't missed anything that I know about.

I use the electric bolts sometimes on things that are weak to shock. It can be quirky, though. Having to reload in the middle of a fight is harrowing.

Butch:

2022 keeping things INTERESTING!

The reloading thing is always what does me in.  I tried it all "Unleash the CHAOS! Die die die oh, wait, shit, uh, what do I do, um....I'm dead."

Tripwires.  They're my go to shock attack.  Love me some tripwires.

Feminina:

Tripwires are nice! I also like vertical shock traps. I recently spent a bunch of skill points on 'trapper' so I can carry and set more traps, and I'm looking forward to unleashing more trap-related awesomeness on the field.

Butch:

Ha!  I did the same thing. It was the last tree I got to and then it was "where has this been all my life?"

Feminina:

Yes! "Wait...why didn't I do this earlier?"

Oh well. Got it now.

Butch:

I do wonder what the trap valor surge is.  I've been so into the stealth one I haven't even experimented.  I bet it's glorious.

Feminina:

Probably! I only ever do the stealth one, I always forget that I can swap them out.

If you try it, tell me if it's glorious.

Butch:

I will!  If I remember to.  So I won't.

I think there's a "weapon technique" with that long distance weapon thingy that I also forget to use where it sends out a barrage of bolts that turn into traps when they land.  That, too, sounds like another glorious thing I'll totally forget to try.

Feminina:

That sounds amazing! I will never remember it.

If I do, I'll tell you about it!--so you will never hear another word on the subject.

Butch:

Dude, can you imagine raining traps down then triggering the trap valor surge?

That must be so awesome!

Too bad we'll never see it because we'll forget about it immediately.

Feminina:

Sucks to be us sometimes.

Butch:

Hey, we're just very loyal to the skills and techniques that have gotten us this far.

We're also very forgetful.

Feminina:

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

What were we talking about again?"

Butch:

It's 2022!  Nothing is broken!

And...we were probably talking about nudity.  Or booze.  Right?

Feminina:

Or both!

Probably both.

Though not really in regards to this game.
