One day, without any announcement, life changes. Not dramatically. Just quietly. The children who once needed you for everything begin building lives of their own. And somewhere between acceptance and silence, a strange emptiness appears. You smile through it. But some nights, while sitting alone with your thoughts, you wonder: Perhaps this is why midlife feels so emotional for many people. It is not only aging. It is the slow realization that life keeps moving forward even while parts of our heart are still standing in old rooms filled with memories. The strange thing is, the world sees you as experienced, mature, wise. And maybe that is not weakness. Maybe that is simply what it means to be human. These days, I no longer try to hold life too tightly. I am learning to sit peacefully with change. Some days I succeed. But perhaps growth after a certain age is not about becoming emotionless. Perhaps it is about learning how to carry love more peacefully. Anita Vij Anita's Substack is free today.
