I’m taking a rich and powerful virtual writing class with poet John Roedel called Heart Write Soul. The goal is to access the wild and precious truth of a singular moment in time—no editing, no revising, no overthinking. Co-hosts John and Michelle Francois-Walsh read poems and play music to serve as “off ramps” and prompts for our eight-to-ten-minute writing sprints and sacred group shares. This week, the notion of peace captured me. Here is what surfaced. A Peace of Me Peace. You can’t point to it and say, Peace. Calming A global agreement I think peace might be negative space— like a pristine pool holding the possibility Both ephemeral ever-taunting disruption: A baby cries. for no reason at all. Peace is We must cradle it Peace doesn’t just happen. Like democracy, Peace is not something we get— but something we find I’m still pondering this one.
