“Coincidences link us to the unknown and weave us into it.” - Doug Dillon Synchronicities. Carl Jung called them “coincidences with meaning.” I say they are “surprises with significance.” Either way, there is nothing like the endorphin rush that fires off like a Roman candle when I uncover a miraculous small-world story. Wild shared epiphanies enable connection with a divine thread, the universe at work. Some say, “God’s way of remaining anonymous.” They are seemingly random acts, but they expose the truth that has always been there, hovering just below the surface—waiting for us to see it. The surprise and wonder can be spiritually intoxicating, assigning glimpses of meaning to the ineffable, like the loss of my late son, Elliot. After Elliot died seven years ago, I could barely function or find my bearings. Everything in “the after” felt surreal, irrational, and out of alignment, but synchronicities, then and now, have provided metaphysical meaning beyond the harsh reality. They are a spiritual balm of sorts—soothing but a little sticky. They remind me of the infinite interdependence of living things, and there is another dimension, or a parallel realm, that we cannot fully experience. It’s where logic defers to intuition, and those passed become present. Synchronicities have the power to anchor us in the now, which is a much healthier place to live...
