"The Quality of Mercy Is Not Strain'd," by Archita Mittra
In Lightspeed Magazine, August 2024 (Issue 171), and read very well on their podcast---read, listen, buy, subscribe
4,796 words

The author says, "[T]here's no compassion under capitalism except for the small kindnesses we choose to offer each other."
