Another 90+ degrees day here in Washington DC. The sweltering heat lives up to its reputation during these dog days of summer. While kids and adults alike enjoy splashing in the pool, I prefer the coolness of the basement instead. Why the basement, you ask?
The basement has advantage over the pool, especially during the frequent afternoon thunderstorms. As thunder rumbles, the sky darkens in a sudden. If in the pool, you're at the mercy of hoping for no lightning which would force everyone out of the water and clear the deck.
Call me practical if you wish, but the basement has many perks. One of which is close proximity to the fridge. There, I have ice cream and ripe watermelon ready to ward off the heat. Plus, no need for sunscreen lotion, which always leave messy whitish residue all over the place.
Really, I do appreciate the lush greenery of trees and grass that summer brings. It's soothing to the eyes. The cool shade under the overhanging branches is a nice contrast. However, not the high humidity and the scorching sun which drive me indoors, whether it's playing pickleball or just relief by air conditioning.
What's your memory of summer?
