TOPIC: HIS ABIDING PRESENCE
TEXT: HAGGAI 1: 13
Then spake Haggai the LORD's messenger in the LORD 's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the LORD . KJV
In the second year of the reign of King Darius, in the first day in the sixth month, the Lord sent his words through Haggai, the prophet. Zerubbabel and Joshua, who played a prominent role in the rebuilding of the temple when the people of the land had become weary because of the threats and challenges they faced.
Thus, the Lord send his words to them to return to the building and put their hands to work (Haggai 1:1-8). The words of the prophet served as a source of encouragement, strength and hope for the people that the Lord was still with them. Haggai 1:12 says;
Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD . KJV
They obeyed and went back to work. This was possible because God stirred their hearts in obedience to ensure that his plan was fulfilled. Haggai 1:14 says; And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God, KJV
Thus, God enabled them through the stirring of his spirit to go back to work. The people were not alone. In clear terms, verse 13 says; Then spake Haggai the LORD 's messenger in the LORD 's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the LORD. KJV
He gave them assurance through his words that he was with them by the abiding presence of his spirit. They were able to do as the Lord commanded, through the presence of God, who stirred up their spirit and gave them his words of assurance. God hasn't change his mode of operation. He works with men and through men. His spirit is always at work in man.
PRAYER
Father, thank you for you are always with me. I don't need to see it before believing that your presence abides with me. This is my conviction and assurance in you. The power of God is at work in me, now and always. Amen
