TOPIC: YOUR MOUTH AS A BLESSING
TEXT: EPHESIANS 5:19
speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; KJV
James 3:9-10 rightly establishes the capacity with which we can make use of our mouth. We can either bless or curse. However, it stated God's view by saying "These things ought not to be so". Which means that our mouth must not bless and curse at the same time. It uses an analogy or epilogue of a fountain that can't produce two kinds of water (fresh and bitter) at the same time. This is to create the picture of the revelation behind the power of our mouth and tongue.
It has the ability to produce. What it will produce depends on us not our mouth. We have the right to decide what we will produce via the channel of the mouth and tongue. Apostle Paul in Ephesians 5:19 gave a potent use of our mouth. We should and can use our mouth to speak to ourselves, and others in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. This is one of the ways to make our mouth and tongue become a channel of fresh water, producing blessings and not curses.
The spiritual connotation is that when we give our mouth to sing praises and spiritual songs as worship to the Lord and in encouragement to others, there is an unseen power released through us. Our ability to keep up with this habit and culture over time makes our mouth to become a channel of God's oracle. Such that when we decree, declare and speak, it happens speedily. In the same light, at this point, it becomes dangerous to declare a curse because it will happen speedily as well.
Your mouth is more than what you think it is. There is such tremendous power and blessing when we learn to make use of the power of the tongue, taming it in accordance with God's will. Give your mouth and tongue to bless others only. You can do it by God's grace in you.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I recognise that through my mouth and tongue is weapon of praise and songs of deliverance, which are spiritual blessings to my life and that of others. Help me to learn the power embedded in my speech and help me to yield to the direction of your spirit to make my mouth a channel of fresh water always in Jesus' name. Amen
