"There is one leading trait, in which none of these men after God's own heart can be wanting; that is, unshaken faith that God has them and their families in his special keeping."
Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, Truth and Fiction Relating to My Life (1902)*
When I wish to read the Old Testament, I most often take up a battered Bible that my Granny gave me some forty years ago . A note on the flyleaf indicates that my great grandmother (whom I called Granny with the Cane) was given this Bible by "my seven very dear children," on Christmas day, 1954. From Granny with the Cane, this Bible passed to my Granny, who read it daily for twenty years. When my Granny passed it to me, its margins were heavily inscribed with her queries, notes, and exclamations.
