"'Frankly, when I looked at the clips, "The Last Supper" isn't necessarily what springs to mind,' she said. 'It seems very lighthearted and funny and witty and very inclusive.'"
Louise Marshall, quoted in The New York Times (July 28, 2024)*
I wonder why the New York Times sought the artistic opinion of an academic flunky in Australia. I believe there are plenty of academic flunkies in the New York City, not to mention plenty of independent egghead authors, plenty of opinionated art gallery owners, plenty of learned curators at one of the world's largest art museums, which happens to be stuffed to the tonsils with Renaissance art. The Times assures us that Louise Marshall is an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Sydney, which I have no reason to doubt, but I have plenty of reasons to doubt she is Earth's only "expert in Renaissance art" who knows how to answer a phone?
