Tag Me In!
When I was a kid we had the WWF, and the drama that unfolded each week was captivating. One of the highlights of the spectacle was when a pair or group of wrestlers would be scheduled to fight instead of just one-on-one. These tag teams worked like this: once a wrestler realized he was out of options, struggling to keep up or unable to beat the opposition - he would "tag in" his partner. The partner would then come to his aid, fresh and ready to rumble. You would see the the wrestler anxiously waiting on the sidelines, his arm through the ropes screaming, "Tag me in!" when things got hectic. At times the struggling wrestler could barely get to his partner and the partner would move around the ring stretching his arm as far over the ropes as was allowed to touch him so that he could take over.
Prayer Partners
My partner and I were talking about prayer the other day and how important it is to our lives. We had begun praying every morning together as I drove to work. That 45 minutes of collective prayer was changing things in our lives and now, with our youngest going off to college, we were feeling it even more intensely to pray for our children's protection.
So what does that have to do with wrestling? I had always had a conflicted relationship with prayer. Sure we prayed about everything growing up, but at the same time, I struggled with certain aspects of prayer. It didn't come easily to me to pray with others. I often struggle with worry and despite having seen God's hand in my life countless times - I still struggled to understand the power of prayer.

He's Waiting
Watching the cars zoom by from the porch, we began talking about how God needs prayer to work. I argued, "He's God - He doesn't NEED anything to work." It's not that He can't, do it on His own, He's following his own rules. He's waiting for us to ask so he can send in the troops.
That's when it hit me. No one ever questioned the abilities of the wrestler outside the ring. We all knew he could fight. But without tagging him in - the wrestler inside the ring was trying to do it all alone - with his own strength. God is waiting, desperately wanting us to "Tag Him in" so that He can intervene on our behalf. We have free will - we aren't simply action figures that God moves where He wants. Unless we, of our free will call on Him for aid - we are trying to fight our battles alone.
So, if you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, and don't know what to do - "Tag Him In!" He's waiting for your call and can't wait to send in the reinforcements.
Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And when you don't know how to pray but need God's help - don't worry - He's got you covered!
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groaning too deep for words.
Be blessed & keep thriving 🙂
