My wife and I were talking about long-standing commercial actors and actresses when they go out in public. We speculated that people would recognize them and shout out their commercial (or stage) name. Think of what you would do if you saw these folks on the street, at a store or in a restaurant.
Flo, the Progressive insurance woman. Of course, she has a cadre of fellow actors that has notoriety, but Flo (played by actor/ comedienne Stephanie Courtney) came first. In her case, people would likely shout her stage name - "Flo!!"
Jake, from State Farm. The insurance company took a minor character from a few years back, changed the actor to Kevin Miles, and have positioned a helpful rival to Flo from Progressive.
Lily, the AT&T customer service person. People probably do not know her stage name, but would shout "AT&T lady" or something similar. Milana Vayntrub, the actress, left her role after a few years to try her hand in non-commercial acting doing TV and online roles. I did see her in a few episodes of "House of Lies," but she recently returned to her AT&T role.
Mayhem, the guy who mimics the various auto insurance claims for Allstate. Played by Dean Winters, Mayhem embodies the reason you need good insurance. I am quite certain he gets shouts of "Mayhem." Before his Mayhem gig, he briefly played Mariska Hargatay's colleague and love interest on Law and Order - SVU.
Jesse White, the first Maytag commercial star. Long before the current Maytag actor who pretends to be the actual appliance, White played the lonely Maytag repair, who had little work as Maytags were so dependable, The current actor, Colin Ferguson, does appear in Hallmark/ LMN movies, but he is now more known for Maytag.
The people I most feel sorry for are those who sell personal hygiene products or Pepto-Bismol type products. Being remembered for insurance is one thing, but being remembered for "down their care" is quite another.
What do you think of the above? Who are some of your favorites?
