Political Framing

It was easy to see how Trump executed his debate strategy on Jun 27: it's all Joe Biden's fault; instead, vote for me because everybody likes me. It wouldn't matter which question the moderators asked or how nonfactual Trump's answers were. It's all about framing.

Certainly, Trump does not have monopoly on political framing. It's a common tactic among the politicians to sell their points, persuade constituents, and gain popular support. Trump just makes it more obvious.

But why would voters follow the political frame?

Psychologically, we all have preferences (left hand versus right, 75 percent lean versus 25 percent fat). Our support follows our preferences. However, a more concerning issue is the political parties responsible for overseeing their candidates are faltering. Trump's force takeover of the GOP is a prime example of this breakdown in party discipline.

In other words, the system is broken. Candidates spin and frame their messages bypassing the parties when it's to their advantage. And the voters are left with little say.

How does character count in the political system?
