France is hosting the 33rd Summer Olympics in Paris. The Opening Ceremony took place today. If I were to describe it in a single word that would be "dramatic."
In spite of the pouring rain, athletes from 206 countries gathered in the City of Light for the games. The atmosphere was electrifying and in high sprit. The organizer has included sport legends both past and present in the ceremony, including Rafael Nadal Rafel, Carl Lewis, Serena Williams, and Nadia Comaneci, just to name a few.
Understandably so, as these athletes represent the best of the world has to offer. They will compete in the next 16 days for honor of being the best among the best in thirty-two sporting events from archery to wrestling. New additions to the Olympics include break dancing.
Consider the on-going wars and conflicts around the globe, the Olympics has brought the world together in the spirit of peace and competition. With 206 countries participating, the representation surpasses the United Nation General Assembly. This is why the Olympics holds a special place in my heart.
