Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) graduated almost 300 high school students with an Associate's Degree this year as part of the county's dual enrollment program, offering free access to community college courses for eligible high school students.
Montgomery County Public Schools held a recent graduation ceremony for 300 students that participated in the dual enrollment program with Montgomery County Community College. 90 percent of these students received their Associate's Degree as part of the celebration and the other participants earned more than 50 credits toward finishing an Associate's. Those still working towards completion of their two-year degree have the option of finishing the degree this summer. Those who graduated now have the option to go straight into the workforce or start their junior year at a college or university to continue their education.
As previously covered on Conduit Street, recent changes to the Blueprint scaled back the number of dual enrollment courses a student can take in a given school year at no cost. You can hear even more about these recent changes and how other jurisdictions are implementing the dual enrollment program at the 2024 MACo Summer Conference panel, "Charting the Course: A New Vision for the Last Years of High School." An esteemed panel of experts will explore the partnerships and resources available to make the most of these opportunities, while helping students plot a course that is right for them. Hear about the success stories, the challenges, and what the future holds for young professionals across the state.
MACo's Summer Conference, "Turning the Tide," is August 14-17, 2024, at the Roland Powell Convention Center in Ocean City, Maryland.
