I hope you had a great weekend and are ready for a great week. My mom turned 88 on Saturday and we celebrated her duly and she popped in again yesterday for a bit right before I started my video so the planned short video below went from short to shorter.
Thank so all of you who visited my Instagram post and left birthday wishes which she loved. I took her to get a massage so we both could enjoy some R & R and I would have to work (and do the body work myself). While a great massage, I still have a black eye from Friday laying face down in the face cradle.. I'm getting all sorts of inquiries π€. Once my mom got over feeling claustrophobic and too hot, she relaxed and enjoyed it.
If you care to have a peek, here's the instagram I posted:
This short work out can be done, sitting in a chair, standing or in the pool. I did intend to make it about 10 minutes longer but every minute counts when you get your body moving. It's in honor of her and her steadfast commitment to doing her exercises regularly. When I turned was 58 my mom said to me "just wait until you're 60 and your arms turn into "kimono arms". I thought "oh really, not mine I'll be working out with weights, It won't happen to me". Fast forward 8 years and I'm here to say you can't defy gravity, especially if your joints can't handle the load. So yeah, my arms are now blowing in the wind. Funny, not funny but alive and lucky to have another day.
You can do another minute or 2 of squats at the end of this workout and then play it over to make it 13 minutes if you want. You can also add the exercises below the video at the end to extend it.
Whatever you do, keep moving, get out of your seat every 30-45 minutes and walk around and stretch, get a walk in every day and don't forget your strength exercises and stretch to keep your muscles toned, posture in alignment and lengthened so you don't start shrinking in the middle creating undo pressure on your spine and neck creating a host of other issues. Muscles shorten and tighten sitting for long lengths of time so PLEASE move your body.
A few quotes I wrote:
Movement is life and as you move your body, breath cleanses each organ, muscle and cell creating new neuropaths in your brain and and body.
To the degree that we move our temple, is the degree to which we remain soft, fluid and open to life.
Our bodies are a mirror of our thinking creating rigidity in body and thought.
To move is to open to the gifts of nature whether in sitting or moving meditation.
When we hold on tight to something we harden and age so breath and let go of unwanted stress.
While I realize these are basic endurance exercises, they get your body moving and as you get stronger, you can add bands and light weights and increase. I'll try to add on and make more of these workouts and add on as we go.
As I mentioned, my hips are increasingly a problem and after doing rehab, acupuncture and chiropractic which help manage symptoms, I had a meeting with the surgeon. He concurs with everyone that I need a hip replacement. I'm meeting with one other surgeon but I have tentatively scheduled surgery in January and want to be proactive. Regardless of restricted body parts, we still have to move and find ways to accommodate whatever limitation we are facing.
Let me know what you noticed if you did these and your thoughts, ideas and what you would like to see in videos so I can gear some of my videos to that.
I'm having trouble in reader where everytime I read a post it takes me back to the top of reader which makes for too many hours of being on WP. I am in touch with the WP HE.. what a joke that is after clearing my cache amongst other things for over a month now, I'm still not getting resolution. Have any of you had this problem and if so what have you done about it?
