In business for…?

Everyone is not meant to be in business.

There are folks that want to be in business for different reasons, some want to 'wheel and deal' and move on, without a fixed operational structure. Then there is the person in business for the 'prestige' of being in a group of 'entrepreneurs' to talk about business - because "if you talk about your business you have a business" (yup - seriously scary). Not to be left out is the person that believes they have all the answers about being in business - without actually starting and having business experience - but has learnt a lot about business from others and books.

Yes its real. The things I hear about being in business and 'how' it works are unreal.

I admire the woman that started her dream and eventually hired her first employee from the beginning, and that employee is still with the company, eight years later - one of forty. The struggle to keep the business sustainable while providing income for a growing team, against the odds and with many challenges is real. This entrepreneur has earned her place, and will keep a space ready for the next opportunity - to keep growing.

Being in business is about trade. It is about earning. It is about providing a solution to a problem and gaining economic wealth and resources. Business is transactional at its core - giving and receiving, return on investment, customer satisfaction, repeat business, sustainable business operations. Sales, marketing, branding and building relationships are things you must embrace when in business!

There is a young man I admire, from starting alone, then, four, now with a staff of ten - in six years he is amazing. A civil engineer, that started an online school with a love for numbers. Dyslexia was not a big enough challenge for this young man averse to risk - slow but sure, consistently believing that he could - and continues to break barriers and help others enjoy learning.

The way I define entrepreneurship, is building a business that creates employment which will help grow communities and thus, impact on economic development of a country. For me, helping entrepreneurs develop and grow their businesses is a major solution towards economic sustainability for people, community, country and world. It is big.

As a business advisor and mentor, a lot of what I do is listen to the stories and help guide, and map out the future hope. Creating opportunities to change the present, so the present can generate income - profitably.

As I scrolled the social media pages, there is a lot of information available on businesses, and some of it is just strange! Everyone is not an entrepreneur, and not everyone is meant to be 'in business'. However, everyone should step out and try to explore all entrepreneurial opportunities to understand the dynamics of being in business.

If you can dream it, you can work towards it. I encourage you to believe enough to move past the superficial and get to the substance of what is business. Be ready to generate and earn income from the start, because it is possible. You can do it!

Thinking about the people in business, entrepreneurs - inspires me and am grateful, appreciate their hustle, their, passion, their commitment - to getting it wrong while ultimately winning it right. Growing entrepreneurs for sustainable business - this is what I do. Everyone is not called to be in business - but those with me - are ready, to get their money!
