In our hearts, we're capable of a full range of emotions, from love to hate, trust to disgust, as well as anger to fear for instance. However, not all these emotions are regarded equally. Our social scripting (how we were brought up) biases us toward those emotions deemed socially acceptable.
Meanwhile, the likes of self-doubt and self-criticism are relegated to the deep, dark corners of our psyche, the shadowy parts of ourselves. However, make no mistake, each one of us harbors these feelings. The difference lies in how much we consciously reveal this shadow self.
In this regard, saints and sinners are not so different. In becoming whom they are, they have traversed a wide spectrum of emotions and decided to pursue the traits that resonate most with their personal values. Ultimately, they let the society's judgement to fall wherever others deem fit.
Most of us don't bother to go the full distance.
