TOPIC: SALVATION IN HIS NAME
TEXT: ACTS 3:19
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; KJV
The essence of Christ's glorification (which is his resurrection), is that many will be witnesses unto his name. This also was the aim of sending forth the Holy Spirit (who is the promise of the Father) in his name. As we have studied earlier that the promised Holy Spirit is for all that the Lord shall call (that is all who will believe in him); including those that are near and far off. The ability for men who are saved to truly understand the importance, potency and essence of his death and resurrection is anchored on the power of the Holy Spirit.
Through the name of Jesus, the miracle of healing was done by faith; however, this healing miracle was to the end that the heart of men who saw the wonder and were amazed, would turn to the Lord (this is called repentance as it was established in the words of Jesus, as he instructed that remission and repentance of sin should be preached in his name because all power has been given unto him). Therefore, the significance of miracles, of whatever nature, is to be a witness to the truth that Jesus indeed rose from the dead, and he is alive, at the right hand of God the Father and all power is submissive and subjected to his name.
Thus, after the miracle, and the people began to wonder at this deed; Apostle Peter went ahead and preached Jesus who was crucified through their hands but whom God raised from the dead to them. He established that his death and resurrection has been foretold by Moses, Samuel and all the prophets. And unto him, God has committed life everlasting, that all who believed in him will be saved. He also established that this is also the reality of the words of promise to Father Abraham which states that 'In him will all nations be blessed. (Acts 3:17-25)
In verse 26, he said: 'Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.' (KJV)
How will Jesus bless them? By sending the message of the gospel through faith in his name, that all of them might turn from their iniquities. Since that time till this present age, Jesus' mission has not change. His blessing is that all who hear the words of the gospel and believe on him by faith, he will turn their iniquities away, cast them to the depth of the sea and give a new life. Eternal life, that life that is of God, wherein sin and death has no power over. Hallelujah! Therefore, be committed to preaching the good news of Jesus and have an irrevocable faith in his name.
PRAYER
Lord, through faith in your name are men saved. Help me to truly be committed to communicating this truth, that the name of Jesus saves. Disarm every form of lie in my heart against the truth of the gospel in Jesus' name. Amen
