Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has extended condolences following the death of Cardinal Kelvin Felix on Thursday.
"On behalf of the Government and the People of Saint Lucia, I wish to extend my sincerest condolences to his family, the Clergy and the Church," Pierre said.
"It was a bittersweet Corpus Christi for me, welcoming His Excellency Santiago De Wit Guzman, Apostolic Nuncio to the Antilles Episcopal Conference during a courtesy visit, then receiving the news of the passing of His Eminence, Cardinal Kelvin Felix, Archbishop Emeritus of Castries," the Prime Minister wrote on Facebook.
Pierre fondly remembers Cardinal Felix's profound service to the Roman Catholic Church and the people of Saint Lucia, a legacy that spanned over three decades.
He observed that Felix's spiritual guidance and social consciousness have touched many people's lives.
"I count it an honour to have been a congregant at his sermons," Pierre stated.
Felix died at 91 in Castries.
He was born in Dominica and ordained a priest in 1956.
As Archbishop, he oversaw establishing and managing numerous schools and social programs within the Archdiocese.
In recognition of his service, Pope Francis named him a Cardinal in 2014.
