I was fretting about not having two books for my long flight to India. My friend quipped, " I don't understand why you can't get a Kindle and download a few books."
What can I say? I am a dinosaur who doesn't like to use new-fangled gadgets unless the original is extinct.
I love everything about books. Kindle just doesn't come close to the charm of a book.
Just imagine losing yourself in a bookstore or a library...
Moving through the rows upon rows of creative work at your disposal. All you have to do is make your choices.
When I choose a book, I can't wait to look at the cover, the design, the script font used for the title, and the author's name. Then, I gently turn the book over and read the "praise" for the author. If the cover and the back hook me in, I read the first few lines on the first page.
Now, I am ready for an adventure, maybe on my way to discover another world or lose myself in the treasure trove of words, imagery, and sheer joy of reading. As Stephen King says, " Books are a uniquely portable magic."
I can't imagine getting excited about scrolling down the Kindle as I do when I eagerly turn the pages over. As I savor the words, I marvel at the author's writing style and the ability to describe every nuance so I can see the scene in my mind's eye!
It doesn't matter whether I am sitting in my comfy armchair, in a crowded plane, or sleepless in the middle of a quiet night; my loyal companion, a book is what I reach for and not a gadget.
