Prince George's Reentry Employment Incentive Program gets highlighted in recognition of Second Chance Month to raise awareness of funding opportunities.
The Reentry Employment Incentive Program, borne by the Returning Citizens Affairs Division of Prince George's and in partnership with Employ Prince George's, has received recognition during the month of April to raise awareness of Second Chance Month. According to articles in both the Washington Post and the College Park Diamondback, the county incentive program offers grants for county businesses that support people returning to the community by reimbursing eligible organizations up to $5,000 annually for every returning citizen employed.
According to the press release, the county has allocated $500,000 toward the program and another $2M was allocated by the State during the 2023 legislative session to help fund the incentive starting July of 2024 through 2028. According to the Washington Post article, program participation has been initially slow, but the county jumped in to lead by example, hiring two returning citizens in 2023 and another nine in 2024 to date.
To check eligibility and register a qualifying position employers can apply at the Employ Prince George's website.
