Luke 8:37-39 – So Jesus returned to the boat and left, crossing back to the other side of the lake. The man who had been freed from the demons begged to go with Him. But Jesus sent him home, saying, "No, go back to your family, and tell them everything God has done for you." So he went all through the town proclaiming the great things Jesus had done for him.
Every day, I can say that God has done something for me in my life. It may be the simplest prayer that is answered or something really tremendous that occurs, but it always each day as I walk with Him, I see prayers answered.
In this passage, we see Jesus casting demons out of a man who is plagued to the point of insanity. I always thought it was unusual that Christ did not allow the man to follow Him. But then the more I considered the whole dialogue between Christ and the gentleman that he healed, I have come to realize that He did not tell him not to be a follower but rather to be a follower by going forth in what would later be described as the Great Commission. To tell everyone in his family and friends about what Christ had done in his life.
You see that is following Christ. Today, if you're serious about your walk with Christ, you're praying every day, you're reading your Bible every day, and even more, you're looking for opportunities to share.
So, what are the things that you share? The things that God is doing in your life. The prayers that he's answering everyday. The miracles and love that you experience in your heart and soul that bind you to Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God.
You may say well, "I'm praying, I'm reading my Bible, and I'm doing everything to try and have an intimate relationship with Christ." But if you miss the last part of what Jesus said to this healed man, "Go home and tell everybody." If you miss that in your day-to-day life, you're blowing it.
Our purpose is not to be private; it is to declare all the good things that God does for us every day to everyone we can. It is essential to the journey.
Stay healthy and have a blessed week!
