Almost end of April. The November Presidential election is only six months away. Not long for average folks but an eternity in politics. Former President Trump is mired in lawsuits. President Biden has not only two wars (Ukraine and Gaza) to deal with but also a growing campus protest across the country toward the treatment of Plaestines.
Americans are concerned with a slate of issues. None has easy solution. Calling it a creative tension is being generous. Our divided society is so far apart on some issues, compromise is not even in the cards as potential solutions. One thing for sure is not to rely on the polls and surveys in the news media. Based on the lessons learned from past years, they are not reliable predictors.
Moreover, in a representative democray, elected officials are supposed to have constituents' best interests in mind. Whether they are capable to deliver should determine the turnout at the election. Personally, I would like to see more supports for the environment such as the Earth Day and make healthcare more equitable and affordable. So visiting to a dentist office would be less convoluted.
