Luke 8:46-48 – But Jesus said, "Someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me." When the woman realized that she could not stay hidden, she began to tremble and fell to her knees in front of him. The whole crowd heard her explain why she had touched him and that she had been immediately healed. "Daughter," he said to her, "your faith has made you well. Go in peace."
I cannot tell you how many times during my lifetime I've read this passage. I have tried to reason so many meanings and understanding about what really happened. Did Jesus have healing power that, if you just touched Him, it could be withdrawn from Him? Or did He have to intend to heal those who He touched and who touched Him?
I've come to the conclusion that it is not the superpower that somehow emanated from Christ but rather the heart and soul of those who approached Him. This woman believed with all her heart that if she just touched the garment of Christ that she could be healed.
It had nothing to do with her asking openly. It had nothing to do with Christ looking her in the eyes and asking her, "Would you like to be healed?" It even had nothing to do with Christ commanding that she should be healed. It had to do with her spirit, faith, and the power of a Savior.
There is no magic in the Holy Spirit. There is no mysticism in the words of Christ. There is simply a yearning spirit that reaches out with a need. With a request to know the greatness of God and seek for Him to move in their life.
Today, all of us have needs. We have requests, and the answers won't depend upon any type of magic. It will depend upon our hearts reaching to touch the hem of Christ's garment to introduce us with a faith and trust that can only transcend the universe and our needs.
Stay healthy and have a blessed weekend!
