Ephesians 6:18 NLT – Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
When I ponder about prayer habits, I usually think about when during the day I should take time for prayer. Maybe five to ten minutes. But at least some point in the day, I will read a chapter in my Bible and then take time to pray.
But today's scripture reveals a different direction about prayer. Somewhat analogous to what is so common in our everyday life. Whether shopping at Walmart or pumping gas, we often spot someone just talking into the air. Almost as though they are talking to themself. Obviously, upon close observation, you realize they have earbuds in as they are talking and listening through their phone.

For many I observe, they seem to never take out their earbuds. It's as though their channel is never disconnected.
So, then how can you as a believer pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion? I think the next two words are the key: "Stay Alert".
Even though you don't have your eyes closed talking to God in prayer, you can have an awareness and an alert spirit that is willing to hear God speak. And believe it or not, you will hear the Spirit speak. The secret is lending your ear to the Spirit. Never allowing the world to seize on your complete attention so that you don't disconnect from the soft voice of God's Spirit.
That is how you pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. It takes time to form a consistent habit, but you can do it.
Stay healthy and have a blessed day!
